Do you feel stretched, tired and burnt out, no matter how much rest you are able to achieve?  Are you experiencing a heavy feeling creeping into your day and it’s often a struggle to summon up the enthusiasm you used to have to take on the many challenges you perceive piling up around you? And are you feeling a bit lost on what exactly is the most important action to take moment by moment to rise out of the feelings of overwhelm?

If you’re ready to tackle these challenges head on and clear out or breakthrough the emotions that are distracting you and blocking your inspiration, then keep reading for 6 steps you would be wise to implement in 2021 and beyond…

STEP 1: Identify and Know Your Top 3 - 4 Values

Your life already demonstrates what you value. Although you may, at times, be momentarily distracted by other people, tasks or opportunities, you are spontaneously called to do certain things in your life.

For example, if I look at my life, no-one has to remind me to get on my computer and do some research; and no-one has to remind me to run webinars, create podcasts or write articles. I spontaneously perform these tasks each and every day, seven days a week because I am inspired and find meaning from within to do them.

It is the same with each and every individual on the planet - your own life already demonstrates your unique set of values or priorities by your spontaneous discipline and reliability they initiate.

Your brain is designed to perceive, decide, act and ultimately fulfil your true highest value, ‘telos’, ‘end in mind’, or purpose. As such, your entire identity tends to revolve around your highest value and you are likely to want to be loved, respected and appreciated for it and identified by it.

Instead of living according to your highest values, you may instead conform to those you depend upon or look up to. This can lead you to inject their values into your life through envy or imitation, which can cloud the clarity of your own highest value and block you from looking objectively at what your life is already demonstrating as truly most important to you. As a result, you are likely to have internal conflict between what you think you ‘need to’, ‘should’, ‘must’ and ‘have to’ do instead of living authentically according to your own unique highest values.

My highest value is teaching, my second highest value is researching and writing, and my third highest value is traveling. So, if I look carefully at what my life demonstrates, it is really blatant.

When determining your own highest values, it would be wise to avoid comparing what your life actually demonstrates with what it used to be or with what you wish it would be. Instead, try to look objectively at what you spontaneously cannot wait to do in the morning.

STEP 2: Clarify Your Mission and Grow The Size Of  Your Vision

Your highest value is your purpose or mission in life. The more congruent you are with that highest value, the more you’re likely to structure your life around that highest value, delegate everything but that highest value, build momentum, and expand your space and time horizons. As a result, your vision tends to grow bigger and you’re more likely to give yourself permission to do something even greater going forwards.

As such, you can live a purposeful, inspiring, meaningful and fulfilling life because when you live by your highest value, you’re inwardly or intrinsically directed to have the most fulfilment.

Being inspired and knowing your highest value often results in your mission and vision becoming crystal clear, which in turn leads to inspiration, vitality and meaning in life. I often tell people during the Breakthrough Experience that your vitality in life is directly proportionate to the vividness of your vision.

Those with a vision flourish; and those without a vision perish. Those with a mission make a difference; those without a mission wander around and subdue themselves by subordinating to other people, conforming, not really standing out, and trying to fit in.

You are not going to make a difference fitting in. You're going to make a difference being inspired and standing out.

STEP 3: Live By Highest Priority

Are you taking command of your life? Are you filling your day with truly meaningful objectives and high priority actions that fulfil and inspire you? Or are you letting the overruling world around you determine your fate?

If you do not fill your day with high priority actions that inspire and bring meaning to you, your day will fill up with low priority distractions that will not. If you do not bring order to your life, disorder will rule your destiny.

Ask yourself: what is the highest priority action I can do today that can help me fulfil my highest value, and primary mission or purpose in life?

Mary Kay from Mary Kay cosmetics once privately advised that I ask myself that question every day, something that I did for years while writing my answers on index cards. I then looked at common answer that kept showing up day after day after day, and it was clear – teach, research, write, travel. I began spending my days doing exactly that and I noticed how I gained momentum, energy, creativity, meaning and inspiration as a result.

Getting your most important and inspiring actions done each day is not about managing your time. It is about choosing to focus your attention and intention wisely during the precious time you have.

Ask yourself what is truly most important in this very present moment. What is the most meaningful action I can do now that will inspire me and serve others most. By transcending the outer world you can more fully focus on what is truly most important now to build a great inspiring and meaningful future.

STEP 4: Govern Your Own Mind

The word governance was derived from a Greek verb which meant “to steer” and was used for the first time in a metaphorical sense by the Greek philosopher, Plato. So, self-governance means one who can steer themselves, or one who is inspired to fulfil a great purpose, has great clarity of direction and strategy, is unwavering in action and is mentally and emotionally stable and centered upon their great and inspiring mission of service.

When you live congruently or in alignment with what is truly most important to you – your highest priorities or values – you set clear, concise, inspiring and meaningful objectives; you execute them more precisely and consistently; your pre-frontal cortex or executive centre takes command of and balances your physiology; you act efficiently, productively and wisely and you become more purposefully self-governed.

But, when you set meaningless and uninspiring objectives and live according to your lower priorities or values – or someone else’s values – you become ungoverned, your primitive subcortical amygdala runs wild, you become a follower and you emotionally react inefficiently, unproductively and foolishly.

When you masterfully govern yourself, nobody or nothing else has to. The magnificence of who you are is far greater than any superior or inferior facades, personas or masks you could ever wear. The true, centered and masterful you self-governs, and, in turn, leads and governs others through great example.

STEP 5: Value and Exemplify Your Authentic Self

It would be wise to give yourself permission to be yourself because when you are authentic is when you are certain to have the most meaning, inspiration and power.

When you infatuate with somebody by thinking that they are greater than you, you tend to minimize yourself as a result.

We’ve all been in situations where we admire somebody, feel intimidated around them, don’t speak up and become more introverted around them because we let them dominate the situation.

The reverse is true when we have been self-righteous, looked down on others, resented them or tried to tell them what to do.

  • When you look down on others and exaggerate yourself – you are not being authentic
  • When you look up to others and minimize yourself – you are not being authentic.

If you’re not being authentic, you can’t expect to be loved for who you are because you are not actually being who you are. It is only when you are centered, not in a state of judgment, and can look at others with equanimity and equity that you are being truly authentic.

I’d like to add that being authentic is not the same as having high or low self-esteem. High self-esteem is a puffed-up pride, a false ego, and an inflated self. Low self-esteem is deflated shame, another false ego and a minimized self. You are not here to exaggerate or minimize yourself, but instead to BE yourself which expands true self-worth.

When you live according to your highest value, you are more likely to have a centered state, which is what I call true self-worth.

STEP 6: Delegate Non Essential Tasks and Link Your Daily Experiences To What You Value Most

I’m certain that it is important to master the ability to delegate if you would love to live an inspired and meaningful life.

Delegate low priority actions to those more suited and inspired to do them. Give others the opportunity to shine and you the opportunity to be set free. Doing what you love and delegating what others would love, liberates all.

If you find somebody who loves and finds meaning in doing it, you are less likely to have to micromanage it going forwards. You can then release it and get on with what really produces, what really serves, and what is really meaningful to you.

But until you can delegate, it's wise to put a system together temporarily, while you're doing low priority things until you can find the person to delegate it to. I recommend linking the lower priority actions to your highest values. Ask yourself; 'How specifically is doing this action temporarily, until I can delegate it, helping me fulfill my highest values?'

By answering this question 30 - 50 times you reframe what you're doing because you see how it's helping you get what you want. It'll increase your energy levels and increase the probability of you getting somebody to delegate it to.

The second you get somebody to delegate it to, get it off your plate. So either go and do what you love through delegating or go love what you do temporarily until you can delegate by linking.

It would be wise to live by priority each and every day to awaken your genius, leadership skills, creativity, objectivity, energy and self-worth while also expanding the clarity of your vision.

In conclusion…

If you would love to live an inspired and meaningful life, it would be wise to know your highest values, focus on your unique purpose in life, live by priority, delegate non-essential tasks, practice daily self-governance, grow your vision and know and honour your true worth. Then take a look at your life and see the difference!
