In 2006, I was involved in the movie The Secret centered on the Law of Attraction: what it is, and how it is wise to implement it in your own life. Many years later, I am still regularly asked for input on the Law of Attraction, not only the principles behind it but also the application of it.
The Law of Attraction is a set of actions and internal perceptions that I have applied to my life since the age of 17 when I began learning that what you think about, visualize, affirm, feel, define and clearly write out, strategize, act upon, and feel inspired to achieve, increases the probability of having them come into your life.
At the time, unlike many teenagers, I was already quite clear in my mind as to what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to travel to every country in the world, and that I wanted to be a teacher. So, I wrote it down.
I wrote down a clear one-liner that said: I would love to overcome my learning and speaking challenges so I can read, write and communicate effectively and I want to be a great teacher who travels the world and who inspires millions of people.
In other words, I wrote out what I knew I would love to be, do and have or achieve in my life.
Over the next 5 decades until today, I continued to use the Law of Attraction in my own life while also teaching others to do the same in their lives.
If you would love to learn the Law of Attraction and use it in your own life here are a few key points to get you started.
When setting objectives in your life, it is wise to get CLEAR about what it is that you truly want. Start with the details of what you know and let what you know grow.
This is very different from writing down lofty fantasies that you may perceive “should” be your objectives or those that you inject from the lives of others.
Instead, it is wise to get clear about what your life ALREADY DEMONSTRATES as being truly important to you – what I refer to as your highest values – and ensure that your objectives are congruent with those highest values.
For example, if you perceive that one of your objectives is financial freedom yet your life shows no evidence that you have already taken steps in this direction because you continue to have more month at the end of your money than money at the end of your month, then this is likely a fantasy and not a true objective.
How do you determine your highest values to help you harness the Law of Attraction more fully?
Like thousands of other people I have worked with, taught, and consulted for over the years, you may be surprised to hear that your life already demonstrates your purpose and that’s revealed through the pattern of your highest values.
You don't have to look anywhere else but your own life demonstration to determine what’s most important to you or what you value most.
Determining your values is a key step in the Law of Attraction, not to mention a game changer in learning to master your life.

I’ve had many people tell me that they have been trying to use the Law of Attraction for many years after reading the book or watching the movie, The Secret.
In the majority of cases, what they’re trying to manifest is an injected value or fantasy, and not an objective that is aligned with their true highest values.
It’s for this reason that I am so inspired to help people determine their values – either via my website or during my 2-day Breakthrough Experience program.
90% of my goals and objectives are realities today, largely because they are congruent with my highest values. If they were lower on my values, I would tend to hesitate, procrastinate and frustrate in the pursuit of them instead of waking up each morning inspired to take action on them.
What is highest on your hierarchy of values is the foundation of your most meaningful purpose.
Write down what you would love to do in your life – clearly and concisely.
I would sometimes spend a few hours writing one little sentence and paragraph in order to put down what truly inspired me. I'd often keep writing it until I got a tear in my eye, because when that happened, it was a moment of authenticity and certainty, together with a deep sense of gratitude that I was on the right track.
So, start with what you know and what you truly want to create in life.
The moment you get really clear on what that is, you will be able to see it and visualize it in your mind’s eye.
You activate the associative areas of your brain from the prefrontal cortex into the occipital lobe, and get details of a vision of what you want to create.
I am certain that writing down what it is you are going to do, increases the odds of you manifesting it in your life.
Your innermost dominant thought becomes your outermost tangible reality.
In my case, I spend my life thinking about traveling the world and teaching, and that’s what my life demonstrates. My dominant thoughts have become my reality. And these aren’t temporary fantasies, but things I am truly committed to.
I took the time to write them down, clarify them, ensure they’re congruent with my highest values, and then I focused on them. These actions indicated that they were truly important and that I would most likely consistently THINK about them.
For example, I don't need to be reminded to think about what I love doing – I think about teaching, researching, writing and travelling for most of the day. They’re my dominant thoughts.
The things you create or manifest in your life are a byproduct of those innermost dominant thoughts.
If you research some of the top sports people and business leaders in the world, they tend not to waste their time thinking about something that isn’t most valuable to them. Instead, their innermost dominant thoughts tend to align with their goals and objectives.
I remember a time when I was consulting in the ‘80s and spent time training the staffs at various doctors’ offices across the United States. I’d often involve them in an exercise where we’d have each member of staff pull the files on 20 inactive patients, one that had not been in the offices for a minimum of 6 months or longer.
They would read the entire file and get a comprehensive view of the patient’s case history, thereby spending time focusing purely on that individual.
We consistently found that 20% of those patients either referred others to the practice or visited the practice in the next few days or weeks. I still don’t have a final theory on why this is so, but it certainly emphasizes the point above, that what you think about, you are more likely to bring about.
This is also when synchronicities most likely occur.
What you’re attentive and attracted to by your highest values, you’ll tend to filter out or spot in your environment.
For example, if you have a high value on health and fitness, when walking through a mall you will most likely notice sports equipment, nutritional supplements and workout gear and less likely to notice children’s toys and pushchairs.
At that moment, on a neural level in the pulvinar nuclei of your brain’s thalamus, which is part of your diencephalon - a sub-cortical structure in the brain that filters your sensory awareness to bring it up to conscious awareness, you will automatically filter your environment based on what you value most.
As a result, something that is LOW on your list of values tends not to get through that filter and is overlooked consciously.
Whatever is HIGHEST on your list of values or priorities - the thing that is most important, meaningful, and inspiring to you - is the thing that you are going to spot in your environment and have the most synchronous, opportunity coming into your awareness.
You will also likely have attention surplus in your highest values and attention deficit in your lower values.
In my case, I have a high value on research and teaching. As a result, I am more likely to see teaching opportunities all around me. If there is a convention on IT, I will likely walk right past it, as it is not on my radar. However, if there is one on human behavior, I will tend to walk straight in and introduce myself.
Synchronicity increases when you have intentions and live according to your highest values.
In other words, I’m likely to spot things that align with my highest values. I’m also more likely to decide to go forward and take action in that area.
Take action
The movie, The Secret, didn't emphasize this step enough, in my opinion. Many of the people who were interviewed in the movie spoke at length about the wisdom of taking action when applying the law of attraction in your life, but much of this footage didn’t make it into the final edited version of the movie.
I am certain that taking action each day, even small actions, add up to build unstoppable momentum. This is very different to those who advocate spending time visualizing your goals without thinking them through and planning a path to achieve them.
Think of Michael Phelps lying on the couch all day every day visualizing winning an Olympic Gold medal without ever getting into the pool to train.
Or Elon Musk visualizing trips to Mars without any of the necessary strategic planning, risk mitigation, testing and smaller space missions required to make that goal a reality.
Visualization on its own, without high-priority action, will do much less in helping you manifest the extraordinary life you can lead.
So that's what I do. I make sure I do a little bit every day towards the goals and objectives that I have. Taking action is another key step in the successful implementation of the law of attraction in your life.
Clarify what you would love to achieve until you can fluently express it to others.
Some wise checkpoints in the process of clarifying and defining what it is you would love to achieve include making sure you can articulate it clearly and fluently to others in a way that they too can see it.
This clarity of purpose often results in feelings of deep gratitude, inspiration, certainty, and an intrinsic driving energy that makes you feel that it’s impossible for you not to fulfill it. In other words, you feel that it's destined.
To sum up:
- The Law of Attraction is a byproduct of highly prioritized, concentrated focus on a spontaneously inspired, true, authentic thought from within, that you write down, see in your mind's eye, articulate to somebody else, feel inspired by, and that brings a tear of gratitude to your eye.
- It is wise to ensure that what you would love to manifest is truly congruent with your highest values – what is truly most important to you that your life already demonstrates.
- I’m certain that what you think about, visualize, internally dialogue with yourself about, feel inspired and grateful for, would love to create in life, and what you act on, SIGNIFICANTLY increases the probability of achieving what it is that you want.
- It's something that you could write down and you can see the details in your mind, something you have a strategy for that's not a fantasy or whim, that you're actually willing to take action spontaneously on, and something that you've chunked it down into small enough bites that you just want to take action on it.
- Goals that fizzle out are likely to have been initiated by a lower transient values and not your highest and truly most important or meaningful value.
- You are highly likely to attract things into your life things based on your innermost dominant thought. You will see opportunities by the way the brain works, and you will increase the probabilities of achieving what it is that's meaningful and fulfilling, if it's congruent with what you value most.
