Like many people, you may have heard talk about “being present” – being in the NOW instead of living in the past or future. The question I am often asked is, what does that actually mean? Where exactly is the present and how do you access it?

Let’s begin with the role that your perceptions have to play. Say, for instance, that you meet someone you're infatuated with, admire and look up to. You’ll likely be conscious of their upsides and unconscious of their downsides and may even begin to start imagining or fantasizing what might happen with you and them in the future.

In the same way, if you run into someone you were infatuated with in the past, you may tend to relive memories of them while also imagining what might have happened with them in the future. In these instances, you are not present.

This blending of imagination and memory introduces something that is often referred to as the “arrow of time” into your mind. This arrow of time can result in entropy – the tendency to increase disorder that distracts you from being fully present.

Why? Because instead of being present, you’re thinking about the future or the past, and having intrusive thoughts about things you’re infatuated with or things you were once infatuated with in your memory of the past.

The same tends to occur when you resent someone, in which case you are likely to be conscious of their downsides and unconscious of their upsides, and also experience intrusive nightmarish thoughts.

You've probably experienced infatuations or resentments that prevented you from sleeping at night as you run over the events as you imagine or remember them and replay what you said or might have said. This back-and-forth oscillation extends your perception of time and space into the past and future, which can also distance you from the present.

Being present is very powerful because it integrates both space and time so that you are fully present in the here and now.

What’s interesting is that when you extract space and time from your mind and become present, you empower your mind. Your intuition constantly works to break you free from the arrow of time, but the impulses and instincts of your amygdala (the subcortical area of your brain), and your subconscious mind tend to keep it anchored in time.

The question is – how can you become fully present?

This question has interested me for a long time. In fact, the Demartini Method, that I teach as part of my signature 2-day Breakthrough Experience program, is designed for this objective.

It helps you go to a moment where and when you perceive a particular event that you were infatuated with or resentful of, that you admired or despised, that you looked up to or down on. And in that moment, you consciously look for the OPPOSITE so you can balance your mental equation and bring equilibrium to your mind. In other words, if you perceive that it is positive, you find the synchronous negative to it; if you perceive that it is negative, you find the synchronous positive to it.

Once you bring them into perfect symmetry, perfect synchronicity, simultaneous opposites, you take out memory and imagination and infatuation and resentment, and you bring yourself to the present.

I've been using this method for over three decades - 35 years in the Breakthrough Experience alone, and 38 years clinically. I have seen time and time again how, when people are fully present, they have tears of gratitude, feel love, are inspired and feel enthused about what’s happening in the moment. They see a hidden order in their apparent chaos, are in a state of gratitude and love, and are most likely to maximize their potential and service to the world.

The moment you simultaneously perceive both sides of an event without becoming infatuated or resentful, and where you see downsides to the things you look up to and upsides to the things you look down on, you become equanimous and present.

The present is the synthesis and synchronicity of complementary opposites in time, space, emotional charge, or things that matter to you.

While I believe that meditation can also help you get present, it can be hit or miss, while the Demartini Method is clinically demonstrated to take you into the present because it's designed to extract space and time from your mind. It's this space and time in your mind that causes the disorder, chaos, emotional vicissitudes, volatilities, and uncertainties in your life. The moment you bring yourself into the present, you transcend those. You experience transcendental feelings of gratitude, love, inspiration, enthusiasm, certainty, and presence. And that's where you have the most power and are most objective.

You have subjective biases when you judge things, but you have objective truth when you actually love things and see both valent sides synchronously.

I'm not defining love as an infatuation, which many people think is love. Love is the synthesis and synchronicity of opposites. By synchronicity, I mean there's no time separating things causally. It's not that this happened and then after that, this next thing happened. They're simultaneous. When you have simultaneity, synchronicity, and a perfect synthesis in space and time, you become present.

Deepak Chopra speaks about having a timeless mind and ageless body when you are fully present. In that moment, you don't age, you don't have entropy; you have negentropy, the reverse of entropy. This is the physics of life, not the physics of death. Entropy is the tendency to go from order to randomness and disorder, part of the death process, the death physics. But this is life physics. This is discovering the hidden order in the apparent chaos and seeing things clearly.

When you reclaim the information that you were unconscious of and become fully conscious, seeing both sides simultaneously, you become present. This state is not only profound for your wellness quotient but also for loving and appreciating life, yourself, and the people around you.

By asking quality questions, such as those I teach in the Demartini Method, that help you synthesize pairs of opposites in mind, you are most likely to become fully present. This affects not only your wellness but also your love and appreciation of life, yourself, and those around you.

In quantum physics, there's a concept called entanglement, where a positively charged particle, like a positron, and a negatively charged particle, like an electron, originate from a photon and, no matter where they are in space and time, they work as a team. This is often referred to as “quantum entanglement”.

Well, something similar occurs in your mind. Your mind never has a memory without an imagination. The hippocampus, which stores memory, also holds the details for the imagination. When you get really present at the moment of perception, these things that normally separate, actually reunite.

In that moment, you experience temporal entanglement, where time is synchronized, and spatial entanglement, where behaviors synchronize regardless of their location in space-time. This is the moment of presence, and achieving this presence is key to wellness, stability, and self-actualization.

If you methodically follow the process that I teach in the Breakthrough Experience, entering into that state, you will experience a tear of gratitude. You will spontaneously see the hidden order in the apparent chaos and realize there is nothing to fix and nothing to change. It's like a perfection that occurs. A German philosopher, Leibniz, talked about how the more people probe into the mysteries of life, the more “perfect” it becomes – something I believe that is true.

Like most people, you may assume that there’s a mistake in the universe or some kind of disorder happening in your life. However, when you ask quality questions to help equilibrate your mind, you can enter a state of gracias or grace where you realize there’s nothing to fix.

Every week in the Breakthrough Experience, people come with the idea that their father, mother, sibling, or spouse did something “wrong”, carrying judgments that add space and time to the mind. This emotional baggage weighs them down and gets stored in the hippocampus and subconscious mind, creating drama and uncertainties in your life.

However, the second  you ask quality questions, such as those in the Demartini Method, that help you see both sides simultaneously and synchronize your mind, you extract space and time between pairs of opposites and enter a state of entangled pairs of opposites, similar to quantum physics. This opens up a doorway of opportunity for your life to be fulfilled.

The Demartini Method is a reproducible method, refined over nearly fifty years, to help you access this state. It’s duplicatable, reproducible, and translatable across cultures.

To Sum Up

When you are truly present, you reduce the aging effects of time, experience less entropy, and have less distractions. There’s a stillness, less noise, the brain noise subsides, and less impulses or instincts driving you to seek or avoid pleasure or pain.

I define love as the synthesis and synchrony of all complementary opposites. When you enter this state of love, you experience grace and become present. This presence is a perfect state of awe and silence, a golden mean, as Aristotle called it. It slows aging and reduces entropy, bringing you into a state of order and presence.

When you live in memory and imagination with emotional charges, you fear the loss of that you perceive to be positive and fear the gain of that you perceive as being negative. If you completely neutralize and synchronize these perceptions, you no longer have fear and fantasy, just presence. In the Breakthrough Experience, I teach people like you how to do this, which often leads to them experiencing a tear of gratitude when they realize the perfect symmetry in their lives.

I believe that the journey into presence is something worthy of every human being. I don’t know of anyone who can’t benefit from extracting space and time from their mind and getting back into the present.

That’s why I often say that the quality of your life is based on the quality of the questions you ask. If you ask questions that allow you to see both sides of an event simultaneously, instead of labeling it positive or negative, good or bad, you can honor it and see its wholeness.

When you're objective, you see both sides simultaneously. When you're subjective, you bias your opinion and perceive things with false positives and false negatives. You may see things that aren't there or fail to see things that are there and distort your reality.

I often say that the journey into presence involves asking quality questions – questions such as those I teach in the Breakthrough Experience with the Demartini Method. This method is a valuable tool that helps you enter a state of presence.

I've seen people of all ages, from young kids to those in their nineties, transform their lives with Demartini Method.  I am certain that it can help reduce your stress, empower your life, slow the ageing process, and help to dissolve the emotional baggage that has been weighing you down.

I would love you to join me at the next Breakthrough Experience so I can teach you the Demartini Method that can help you become truly present. It can help you experience gratitude, love, inspiration, enthusiasm, certainty, and presence – what I call the transcendentals of life.
