In 1968, while hitchhiking from Texas to California to surf, I met an amazing man in the streets of El Paso, Texas. This gentleman encouraged me to follow him to a library, where he sat me down at a table before placing two books in front of me.

“ Young man,” he said. “ I have two things I want to teach you.”

“ Number one, never judge a book by its cover because it will fool you. You probably think I’m some old guy on the street, but I’m actually one of the wealthiest men in the world. I have everything that money can buy: homes, ships, planes, and businesses. So don’t ever judge a book by its cover.”

He then took my right hand and set it on top of the two books that he had put on the table when we arrived. I could see that one was by Plato and the other was by Aristotle.

Son,” he said to me, “ you learn how to read. You learn how to read, boy, because there are only two things they can never take away from you: your love and your wisdom. So learn to read so you can gain the WISDOM OF LOVE and the LOVE OF WISDOM.”

At the time, I had no comprehension of the impact this experience would have on my life. I was just looking forward to getting to California so I could spend my days surfing.

Little was I to know that this encounter would later become the very cornerstone and foundation of what I have committed my life to!

I’ve dedicated my life for the last 48 years to the two topics of love and wisdom, which I define as the synthesis and synchronicity of all complementary opposites that you could ever perceive in your life.

This may sound like a mouthful, but it is actually quite profound. Here’s why:

  • When you put someone on a pedestal and infatuate with them, you tend to be conscious of the upsides and unconscious of the downsides.
  • When you look down on someone and resent them, you tend to be conscious of the downsides and unconscious of the upsides.
  • If you’re infatuated with someone, they’re likely to occupy space and time in your mind and run you.
  • If you resent someone, they’re likely to occupy space and time in your mind and run you again.

In these instances, you’re not fully conscious. Instead, you are conscious of one half and unconscious of the other.

However, if you ask quality questions, which your intuition will constantly attempt you to do, such as:

“What are the upsides to what you think is down?

What are the downsides to what you think is up?”

Then the result is that you’re more likely to synthesize and synchronize the two polarities.

You become fully conscious when you can see them both at the same time.

The epistemology of knowing something is an expression of love and wisdom.

You can be distracted in your life, mind, business, wealth building, relationships, social leadership skills, physiology, and perhaps even in your spiritual quest.

Whenever you’re distracted by the things you have imbalanced perspectives on, your intuition will constantly try to get you back into a balanced and whole superconscious state.

If you don’t become fully conscious, you are then more likely to be swayed by the impulses of infatuation and instincts of resentment that can distract you from being present, empowered, purposeful, productive, and prioritized in your life to achieve something great.

When you have a perfectly balanced mind, your heart will tend to open up as a result. Your mind will also open up because there is no noise in it and become CLEAR, INSPIRED, REVELATORY and EMPOWERING.

As a result, you’re less likely to be distracted by the external world but can instead be driven from within, from your heart and mind, towards what you would love to do in your life.

Emanuel Swedenborg, the Swedish scientist turned visionary, once said that the heat of the sun is love and the light of the sun is wisdom.

This is a wonderful metaphor because when you’re enlightened, you tend to have love and wisdom together with the ability to see the hidden order in your apparent chaos.

As a result, you’ll be less likely to be swayed by distractions and can instead:

  • Be present;
  • Intuitively guide yourself back into the center; and
  • Have what I call the transcendental feelings of gratitude, love, inspiration, enthusiasm, presence and certainty, which I believe are the keys to living an extraordinary life.

Love and wisdom are a vital foundation for any great achievement.

If you’d love to master your life, do something extraordinary, leave a mark on the world, make a difference, and have something that you can say “thank you for” with tears of gratitude, then love and wisdom are the wisest foundation stones on which to build.

When I work with clients, using the Demartini Method, I take them through a method where I ask them quality questions that allow them to be fully conscious of the magnificent love that they are surrounded by.

You may, at times, perceive an event as being a one-sided challenge. This imbalanced perception tends to be stored in your subconscious mind. Seeing an event as a one sided negative, also results in your having a higher probability of reacting like an animal and going into a ‘fight or flight mode.

However, when you ask intuitive questions, become present and see both sides, you wake up your superconscious mind, which is the storehouse of love and wisdom. When you see both sides, instead of reacting to the experiences you perceive in the outer world, you are poised and able to act upon the world instead, driven from within.

Conclusion:

  • The heart is the expresser of love, and the brain and mind are the expressers of wisdom. These two things make us distinct from any other species.
  • As you go along in life, you accumulate love and wisdom to pass on to the next generation. I think that’s the very essence of our existence and an exemplary path for any human being to follow in life.
  • You’re here to do something profound with your life. Love and wisdom are profound. So it is wise to make love and wisdom the cornerstone of what you are dedicated to.
  • You’re more likely to be steered wisely if you focus on the “north stars” of love and wisdom while navigating your way through life.

Give yourself permission to do something extraordinary and amazing on planet earth. Acknowledge that you have and can do whatever it takes. You would not be given a true and inspiring dream without the potential to fulfil it. Listen to the wisdom of your heart, and then use the sound reason of your mind to strategize and plan out the life you would truly love.
