Like every human being, regardless of culture, age, gender, or sexuality, you live by a set of priorities or values, things that are most important to least important to you. This set of priorities or hierarchy of values is fingerprint-specific and unique.

Whenever you’re doing and achieving something that’s truly  highest  on your list of values - in other words, the most important and meaningful thing that spontaneously inspires you – your self-worth goes up, your self-confidence goes up and your self-belief goes up.

You automatically wake up your natural born executive or leader, while also maximizing your genius, creativity, innovation, and capacity for problem solving.

If you don't fill your day with the very highest priority actions that spontaneously inspires you and that you can do, you’ll decrease the probability of waking up your most innovative state of being.

It is predominantly when you are living congruently with your highest value that you will be spontaneously inspired to solve problems and awaken your greatest potential as a human being.

As I often state while presenting my signature program, the Breakthrough Experience:

  • If you don't fill your day with the  highest  priority actions that inspire you, your day will fill up with progressively lower priority distractions that don't.
  • When you're distracted by  lower priority actions, you’re likely to become scattered,  less focused, disciplined, and reliable.

When you live according to your highest values or top priorities, your blood, glucose, and oxygen go into your FOREBRAIN, which is the executive center of your brain.

So, anytime you fill your day with your highest priority actions and do what is most important, meaningful, and inspiring in your life; you  wake up the part of your brain that is involved in inspired vision, strategic planning, risk mitigation, creative thinking, problem solving and innovation.

If you don't fill your day with challenges that inspire you, you are designed to give rise or attract challenges that don't.

When you fill your day with low priority actions, the blood glucose and oxygen go into your amygdala and HINDBRAIN. So, instead of waking up your executive center for inspired vision, you instead wake up your amygdala and hindbrain, which deals with conditioned reflexes, and impulses for immediate gratification and the avoiding of pain.

As a result, you are most likely to  avoid challenges instead of trying to  solve them. You will also tend to take on the role of follower and member of the herd, instead of an inspired leader.

Attempting to live in your lower values and not your highest values is most likely the result of subordinating to outer authorities and injecting their values into your life. This can cloud the clarity of your own highest value or primary mission and scatter you focus.

Suppose you meet someone that you perceive to be smarter, more successful, more financially viable, more stable in their relationships, more socially savvy or connected, more physically fit, or more spiritually aware. As a result, you may consciously or unconsciously perceive that you are the underdog and DIMINISH yourself relative to them.

Values in life go from those who have the  most perceived power to those who have the  least perceived power in society. By placing someone on a pedestal, you’re likely to try to inject his or her values into your life and temporarily attempt to be somebody you’re not.

In this inauthentic state, you’ll tend to become distracted and scattered as you attempt to become the second edition of them instead of the first edition of you.

I often speak about the difference between a “borrowed visionary” and an “unborrowed visionary”.

An unborrowed visionary creates an original pathway as a result of their original thinking.

Original thinking is a by-product of authenticity and reflective awareness.

  • When you put people on pedestals and inject their values, you’re likely to want to try to be more like them.
  • When you put people in pits, you’re likely to try to get them to be more like you.

As long as your energy is futilely trying to be somebody you're not, all that energy dissipates and prevents you from being yourself.

I am certain that the magnificence of your  authentic  self is the secret to becoming an unborrowed visionary. Where you have the courage not to conform, but instead to walk a path of original thinking.

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo…”

It’s often the people who don't fit into the rest of society, don't conform, don't subordinate to their mothers, fathers, preachers, and teachers; and who don’t limit themselves to the conventions and traditions around them, but who instead go within them and let the voice and the vision on the inside be louder than all those opinions on the outside: those are the ones that are most likely to activate their original thinking and creativity.

Why?

Because they're the ones who give themselves PERMISSION to shine and not shrink, to stand out and not fit in, and to be original and not subordinate to tradition.

Ernest Becker in his 'Denial of Death' wrote about the difference between “collective heroism” and “individual heroism”.

Historically, people who have made a difference in history have tended to be what Ernest Becker called  individual heroes and not collective heroes.

A collective hero is a person who  fits into society and becomes respected by society because they fit in, not because they stand out.

None of the Nobel Prize winners, none of the Olympic medalists, and none of the great leaders I can think of have been ones who conformed.

Instead, they're the ones who dared to walk an untrodden path to the beat of their own drum.

ACTION STEP #1:

If you would love to be an unborrowed visionary or individual leader so you can awaken your leadership, creative thinking, problem solving and innovation, it’s wise to begin by:

  • Identifying what is highest on your list of values. If you haven’t yet done the  FREE Value Determination Process on my website, this would be a sensible place to start.
  • Mindfully and deliberately living congruently with your highest values each day. In doing so, you will give yourself permission to begin standing out.
You are LESS likely to become an unborrowed visionary if you would love to avoid the rejection by others and worry about people's opinions.

You may not always be appreciated for your original thinking at the time:

  • Copernicus, an astronomer and polymath, was ridiculed, violently opposed, and challenged in some respects, yet his original ideas broke the boundary of thinking.
  • Giordano Bruno, a cosmological theorist and philosopher, was burned at the stake yet later honored as a genius who was 400 years ahead of his time.

People of mediocrity are likely to pick on people who stand out.

When you're living congruently with your highest values, your space and time horizons grow, and you tend to become disciplined, reliable, focused, and less concerned with the opinions of the crowd.

You’ll also tend to see how your life is ‘on the way’ and how  everything is happening FOR you, not TO you. As such, you will be more likely to embrace the pains and pleasures in the pursuit of that which is purposeful to you, instead of doing everything you can to avoid them.

When you give yourself permission to be an unborrowed visionary and live by your highest priority, you:

  • Give yourself permission to EXCEL and do something EXTRAORDINARY with your life.
  • Give yourself permission to find a problem or challenge that’s so meaningful to you that you can't WAIT to get up in the morning and work on it.
  • Expand your space and time horizons by continuing to set and achieve bigger and bigger goals until you eventually set a goal that's beyond your own life. In doing so, you wake up your LEGACY and potential social immortality.

As I said earlier, it is wise to  be prepared to be challenged, ridiculed or have people violently opposed to your original idea. Later, your evidence may become so evident that the people who doubted you turn into your biggest cheerleaders.

You can FOLLOW a culture, or you can BUILD and LEAD a culture.

People who repeatedly attempt to live by their lower values or priorities are most likely to be followers. They're like the animals that live their lives avoiding pain, seeking pleasure, and trying to fit into the herd for protection.

Those that give themselves permission to go after something profoundly impactful on the planet and who are willing to equally embrace the pain and pleasure in their pursuit because they want to make a difference are the ones who are most likely to build a culture and leave a legacy.

Living by the highest priority action is one of the keys to mastering your life and inspiring innovation.

It's innate within you to express your authenticity. You may not know the strategies or the skills to do it, but I am certain that living by priority is one of the keys.

ACTION STEP #2:

  • Ask yourself: what is the highest priority action you can do today that will serve the greatest number of people with the resources you have today, in the most effective and efficient manner?
  • Do that daily and stick to the highest priorities of the highest priorities of the highest priorities so you can initiate or awaken your unborrowed vision.

An unborrowed visionary has COURAGE.

Courage means “from the heart”. When you're living authentically, you're living in your heart and doing what you love. You're inspired by it and you’re likely to WANT to solve the problems you believe will help you progress towards your inspired goals.

Think of a boy who loves online gaming. The instant he conquers a level, he wants to move onto the next more difficult level. Because gaming is high on his values, he’s inspired from within to tackle new challenges as they grow in difficulty.

It’s likely the same with you. When you go after what's truly and intrinsically important to you, you're likely to stop running from challenges and instead begin selecting and seeking them.

Leaders pursue challenges that inspire them. Those challenges inspire and wake up their genius.

I wrote a booklet many years ago on awakening genius. In my research, I consistently found that the individuals who awakened their genius tended to be those who pursued something deeply meaningful to them.

ACTION STEP #3:

Your  economic rewards in life are often a reflection of the PROBLEMS you solve. So, the question you would be wise to ask is:

  • What is the greatest problem that is so deeply meaningful and inspiring to you that you would love to dedicate your life to solving it?

Give yourself permission to be a solution to the world.

I am certain that inside you is the capacity to solve massive problems, but it is wise to give yourself permission to do it first.

Suppose you meet someone you think has done something extraordinary. Instead of putting them on a pedestal and minimizing yourself as a result, you can make a list of the specific traits, actions, and inactions they display or demonstrate that you most admire.

You can then look deep inside yourself to find those exact traits, actions or inactions because  nothing’s missing inside you.

In other words, it is wise to look inside YOURSELF for what you see in them.

You're not missing what they have, but what you have may not necessarily be in the area of their highest values and what they have may not be in your highest values.

Identifying the trait, action or inaction will help you AWAKEN your awareness of it inside yourself instead of subordinating to the individual you admire and minimizing yourself as a result.

The moment you own all the traits, actions or inactions you perceive in other great individuals, is the moment you get to stand on the shoulders of others and not in their shadows. It’s also when you are likely to believe in your own ability to speak out and contribute something original.

You’re not here to compare yourself to others. You're here to compare your daily actions to your highest values. That's how you maximize your genius.

Standing out, being authentic, maximizing your genius is how you win gold medals. That's how you solve problems and win a Nobel Prize. Not because you’re comparing yourself to others, but because you’re owning the traits you see in others, awakening your awareness of them inside yourself, and leveling the playing field so there's no longer a need to put others on pedestals or in pits.

It’s wonderfully liberating and empowering to realize that others are on their own journey of solving problems according to their highest values, while you are doing the same according your highest values.

The moment you give yourself permission to do that, you’re more likely to stand out instead of fitting in, to rise and not fall, and to end up with an unborrowed vision to share with the world.

In Conclusion:

If you would love to take your creative thinking, problem solving and innovation to the next level, it is wise to:

  • Find inside you a problem you would love to solve, one that is deeply meaningful and that serves vast numbers of people.
  • Solve it, and structure it, and package it in such a way that it becomes financially viable for you and for others.
  • Give yourself permission to do it and be fulfilled.
  • Be mindful that nothing is missing in you. So, whatever you see in others that you admire, you already have inside you.
  • Consider joining me for my signature program The Breakthrough Experience where I can show you how to apply these principles to take your life to the next level of fulfilment and empowerment.

I'm certain that you can do something extraordinary and solve massive problems in the world. You just may not yet have given yourself permission to do it! Perhaps now is the perfect time to begin.
